Battery/Power Issues
Question: How do I open the battery compartment? Answer: · Looking at the back of the voice recorder, flip it upside down so that the silver battery cover is on top. · Hold the lock switch down with your thumb. · With your other hand push the silver battery cover ACROSS to the left away from the hinge. The cover should snap open.
Question: How do I close the battery compartment? Answer: · Looking at the back of the voice recorder, flip it upside down so that the silver battery cover is on top. · Pull the battery cover away from the hinge. · With the hinge extended, close the battery cover. · Push the battery cover to the right to lock it in the closed position.
Question: What are the specifications for the external power adaptor? Answer: The recommended power adaptor should be DC 4.5V-6V, 300mA, and Port soze: 3.5 Pi
Recording Issues
Question: Can I pause while I’m recording? Answer: · SSC recorders do not support this functionality directly. · As an alternative it is possible to append new recording to an existing file after you have stopped recording · Select the file you would like to append new recording to · Press and hold the record button until “APPENd” appears on the LED · Release the record button · The recorder will start recording from the end of your selected file
Question: Can I pause during playback? Answer: By pressing the jog dial in as if you were hitting play. This will pause the recording and allow you to resume where you left off.
Question: What is VOR recording? Answer: · VOR recording is a setting that allows your recorder to stop recording and go into “standby” mode when the recorder does not detect any sound. It will resume recording when it picks up a sound · The recorder cannot distinguish between voices and background noise. It will record background noise even if no one is talking. · This setting is usually used when the recorder is directly connected to an external source such as a stereo or telephone
Question: What is the recording quality of the recorders? Answer: · SHQ: 16Kbps and 16Khz (9065su model only) · HQ: 13.2Kbps and 11.2Khz · SP: 9.6Kbps and 8Khz · LP: 4.4 Kbps and 8Khz
Question: What is reserve recording? (65 hour recorder only) Answer: This mode allows you to schedule a time when you want the recorder to automatically turn on and start recording for a specified period of time.
Playback Issues
Question: I can’t find a file I recorded. I did not delete it. Answer: · SSC recorders contain 4 folders (A-D) in which you can save your recordings. Look for your file in the other folders · Press the “folder/A->B” button on your recorder to switch to the next folder. · On the 9033su/9016su, the current folder is displayed in the upper middle part of the LCD · On the 9065, the current folder is displayed in the upper left corner of the LCD
Question: How do I fast forward/rewind within a file during playback? Answer: · Hold the jog dial to the left during playback to fast forward within a file. · Hold the jog dial to the right during playback to rewind within a file. · Note: the longer you hold the jog dial, the faster it will fast forward/rewind. This enables you to search within large recordings.
Question: Do I have to cycle through all the menus to get back to my recorded files? Answer: No. To exit any of the menus and go back to your recorded files, press the record button once.
Erasing/Recovering Files Issues
Question: Will I lose all my files when I take out the batteries? Answer: · No. Your voice recorder stores it’s data in flash memory. You will not “lose” your files unless you delete them or format the voice recorder.
Question: Can I permanently delete files so they cannot be recovered? Answer: · To permanently delete files, you must reformat the voice recorder · This will permanently remove ALL files from your recorder – you cannot selectively remove certain files
PC Connection, Download, and Software Issues
Question: How do I use the DVR Manager software? Answer: · Startup the DVR Manager software · Select “Help” from the menu
Question: How can I edit my recordings? Answer: · Startup the DVR Manager software · Select “Help” from the menu · Select “Editing” from the Table of Contents
Question: What file format are my voice recordings saved in? Answer: · Voice recording files are saved in “.FVT” format. This is a special compressed voice recorder format. · “FVT” files can be converted to “.WAV” format using the conversion function in the desktop software
Question: Can the recorder convert my voice recordings to text? Answer: No, it does not. You can only transfer the audio files to your computer. Transcribing audio files to text requires additional 3rd party software
Question: What is the maximum distance you can record? Answer: Quality and distance are subject to the surrounding circumstances. As a general rule: Without using the included lapel microphone you can record up to 20ft plus. With the microphone you can record up to 15ft plus.
